Reykjavik, the world‘s northernmost capital, is a vibrant and lively city, with events and concerts all year round but of course people mostly come to Iceland its unspoiled nature and often wonder what the best tours from Reykjavik are.
Not far from Reykjavik are some very spectacular areas of Iceland and guided tours are great because you have certified guides who are always ready to tell you stories and interesting facts on what you are visiting, which adds so much value to the visit of the place itself.
The following tours are my pick if you are spending a few days in Iceland and want to get the most out of them.
The Golden Circle Tour
One of the most popular tours and a must see if you are visiting Iceland. On the Golden Circle Tour, you will visit the beautiful Þingvellir National Park where you can see the North American and the European tectonic plates drift apart, the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss, the famous Geysir and on the way back you will stop at the Secret Lagoon and end your day bathing in one of my favorite hot springs in Iceland.
As I said, this is a very popular tour, you will see beautiful places but you will also see many tourists.
If you are visiting Iceland in the summertime you can take a Midnight Sun Golden Circle Tour to explore the Golden Circle under the light of the never setting Icelandic summer sun.
South Shore Adventure Tour
Another very popular tour, and one of my favorite, is the South Shore Adventure which takes you from Reykjavik all the way to Vík and back. It is definitely worth the drive because on the tour you will get to see Seljalandsfoss, the water you can walk behind, the powerful Skógarfoss and the beautiful Sólheimajökull glacier. You will feel the power of Icelandic nature as you walk on the black beaches around Vík, always windy and always beautiful any time of the year.
One of my favorite, the Snæfellsnes tour will take you to this peninsula where you can see charming fishing villages, lovely beaches, amazing lava fields, sea cliffs and rock formations and of course the famous Snæfellsjökull glacier and the church mountain, Kirkjufell. This is absolutely one of the most beautiful places in Iceland and it is not as touristy as the South so you might find more peace and a bit less people.
Snaefellsnes penisula cliffs
This is another of Iceland‘s gems, very often forgotten so the Reykjanes Tour is great if you want to keep off the most beaten track but still see some of Iceland‘s wonders. You will see the Reykjanes Geopark with its colored hills and mud pools. You will also get the chance to see amazing birdlife along the sea cliffs and stand on a bridge build over the two diverging tectonic plates.
All these tours can be done privately, this way you will see more than in the regular tours but still having a knowledgeable guide with you.
I am sure you will love all these places just as much as I do and you will want to come back to magical Iceland to see more.
