Hvalfjordur, Krauma hot relax, Reykholt, Barnafoss, Into the Glacier combo private tour (Glymur hike – optional during summer)
During this tour you will visit:
1. Hvalfjordur (The Whale Fjord).
Hvalfjordur is the fjord near Reykjavik that was one of the most important naval stations in the north atlantic during the second world war and was one of the main whaling stations in Iceland. There is still an old whaling station and a war museum in the fjord. We will visit this unique Icelandic fjord with its canyons, cliffs and waterfalls. The area of Hvalfjordur is very quiet , less crowded, and with breathtaking views. Glymur, the highest waterfall of Iceland (198m) is situated here. During summer we can bring you to the starting point of a 3-4 hour fantastic hike which will give you the opportunity to experience and explore the beautiful area and discover the Glymur waterfall. (note: hike to Glymur – hike suitable for everyone over the age of 10 and in a good health – Difficulty – moderate)
2. Krauma relaxing hot springs!
After your visit to the Hvalfjordur we will continue the journey to Deildartunguhver, the biggest natural hot spring in Europe. Here is the natural geothermal bath resort Krauma located. Krauma offers several relaxing natural geothermal baths with different temperatures, saunas and a relaxation room where you can rest by the fireplace. It is a fantastic, much less crowded place to relax in an Icelandic hot spring.
3. Reykholt village
After a great relax we will be ready to visit Reykholt – one of Iceland most notable historical sites. In Reykholt one of Icelands oldest geothermal heated pools is located: Snorralaug. Near the pool there are a cultural center and a beautiful old Icelandic church which can be visited.
4. Hraunfossar & Barnafoss waterfalls
The next stop on our trip will be at two amazing waterfalls : Hraunfossar (Lava waterfalls) and Barnafoss (Children Waterfall). The Hraunfossar is actually not just a single waterfall but in fact a cluster of multiple smaller cascades which combined give a waterfall with a total lengths of 900m (300ft). Nearby, visitors can admire a second waterfall named Barnafoss . The name is derived from an old legend about two children who were walking over a natural bridge, fell into the waterfall and drowned. Devastated by grief, the mother destroyed the bridge. From the new, modern bridge you can see both waterfalls.
5. Husafell center
From the waterfalls we continue our trip to Husafell center. Here you can enjoy a hot drink with a snack. Optional at Husafell is the Into the Glacier Tour (19.500isk). An additional adventure with a special modified glacier vehicle.
On our journey back to Reykjavik we will drive through the small fishing village Borgarnes on the west coast. Upon request we can make a stop here to have dinner.
Into the Glacier experience (19.500isk/person)
Langjokull (The Long Glacier) is the second – largest glacier in Iceland. From Husafell center you will be driven onto the glacier in a special modified Glacier truck.
