Project Description

Iceland Glacier walk- tour description.

Glacier walk on Sólheimajökull, the largest glacial tongue of the Mýrdaljökull.

Iceland has a number of glaciers condensed in the south. The Myrdaljökull is the country’s fourth largest glaciers. With a thickness of 700 meters in places, this solid frozen mass sits firmly in shimmering splendour on top of the foreboding Katla – a massive sub-glacial central volcano. The Katla caldera is 10km (6.3 miles) in diameter. With an average interval of 40-80 years it has erupted between 16–20 times since the settlement on Iceland. Although glaciers look tempting, they should only be navigated in the company of an expert guide like those who offer tours and Glacier walk on Sólheimajökull, the largest glacial tongue of the Mýrdaljökull.

Walk on the glacier Sólheimajökull

The part of the Sólheimajökull glacier extends from the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier, far to the Icelandic south coast. The glacier is surrounded by amazing and magical ice & rock formations that shaped the glacier.
When walking on the glacier Sólheimajökull, we will visit amazing places like bends or deep cracks and glacier caves. During the Glacier walk we will learn more about the behavior of glaciers and their impact on nature. Glaciers slowly disappear from the surface because of global warming, so a glacier walk is something truly unique and special.

There are no special restrictions during Glacier Walk. Everyone can try. An experienced guide will teach you how to use the tools which are needed for glacierwalk. Such as: raki and ice axe, which are provided for all Glacier walk tours.

A walk on one of the many disappearing glaciers is an unforgettable, amazing experience.

We look forward to seeing you on our Glacier Walk!
