Steamy and colorful geothermal areas, moss-covered lava fields, caves, craters, cliffs, and the spectacular Blue Lagoon, Reykjanes has it all.
Reykjanes peninsula is one of the most fascinating areas in Iceland and just a 30-minute drive from Reykjavik. Discover this often omitted peninsula with our Private Jeep Tour.
This tour is perfect for geology and nature lovers, but it is also good to mention that the uniqueness of Reykjanes has attracted movie directors from all over the world in the past few years.
After we pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik in the morning, we start our Private Reykjanes Jeep Tour by heading south-west to our first stop, Seltún. The geothermal area of Seltún enchants with the many vivid colors that the minerals give to the rocks and with its mud pools and springs with water reaching temperatures of 80-90 degrees Celsius. There is a path among the hot springs and it is a lovely place to walk around and take some amazing pictures.
Next, we visit Gunnuhver, another beautiful hot springs area close to the fascinating Reykjanesviti, the oldest lighthouse in Iceland. Gunnuhver gets its name after Gunna, a female ghost that used to haunt a nearby village over 400 years ago. She was disturbing the inhabitants until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into the spring.
The contrast between the ocean and the black lava close to the Reykjanesviti lighthouse creates a magical landscape, perfect for great photos.
Next stop on our Private Reykjanes Jeep Tour is Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the Reykjanes peninsula, where an episode of "Black Mirror" was filmed. Here you have the chance to take a short hike to the top of Krísuvíkurbjarg cliffs, the highest bird cliff on the peninsula, with its characteristic dark basalt rocks. Other stops on our Private Reykjanes Jeep Tour are Grindavik, where you can try some local food and the Bridge Between Two Continents at Sandvík, a small footbridge over a fissure that provides evidence that the North American and the European are drifting apart.
After all the sightseeing, we stop at the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most famous attractions. Here you have time to walk around and take pictures or enjoy a coffee in the cafe overlooking the blue pool. If you wish, you can take a relaxing bath in the warm lagoon while enjoying a drink or trying the nourishing silica mask (Please note entrance tickets are not included in the price of the tour and must be purchased in advance. We cannot guarantee availability if tickets are booked with short notice).
There will be many coffee and toilet breaks during this private tour, so you can enjoy Iceland in comfort.
If you are taking this tour in the winter months (September to March) we will try to hunt for some Northern Lights before heading back to Reykjavik (weather permitting).
