Go on an adventure with us and get closer to the Icelandic Highlands. On this private day tour by a comfortable 4x4 jeep, you will visit beautiful waterfalls and green canyons, cross rivers, have amazing views of Eyjafjallajökull glacier-volcano, admire glaciers covered in volcanic ash from past eruptions and much more.
In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel and start driving the famous Icelandic Ring Road from where you will have great views of Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull Volcanoes. Hekla was known in the Middle Ages as the “gateway to hell” and it's still one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland.
Our first stop will be the breathtaking Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Make sure to bring your raincoat with you as you will have the chance to walk a path behind the waterfall and you can get wet. The waterfall become an iconic scene in Iceland lately as it drops from a 60m cliff and the water is originated from the famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. It's also the first major attraction we pass by as we steer our wheels on the gravel roads heading to the famous, lush Thorsmork Valley. Close to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, another hidden gem has been gaining some popularity recently - Gljufrabui waterfall. It hides behind a cracked cliff and once you walk into the canyon, you will see the stunning waterfall falling forcefully, truly a memorable scene.
We will then drive to Thórsmörk, the valley of Thor, surrounded by mountains and glaciers. We will see Gigjökull glacier tongue and will have some time to hike close to the edge of Eyjafjallajökull, the glacier-volcano that erupted in 2010 stopping air traffic all over Europe, making Iceland famous all over the world. The area is exceptionally beautiful in summer and autumn. The locals always talk about its good summer weather when everywhere else in Iceland is rainy. A hiker's paradise, Thorsmork has a signature scene in which the glacial rivers are braided on the black lava land of sand and stones that many have seen in drone shots.
Our next stop will be Stakkholtsgjá Canyon, with its breath-taking 100-meter high cliffs towering above your head. Stakkholtsgjá Canyon was one of the filming locations of Game of Thrones so you can't miss it if you are a fan.
We will be crossing rivers with our jeep to drive further into the Thórsmörk valley. We will stop at a campsite (with toilets and small cafe) from where you will have the chance to go on some short hikes and enjoy spectacular views of glacial river beds and the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
Weather and time permitting, we will make some extra stops, such as the beautiful Nauthúsagil ravine that ends with a waterfall and Gluggafoss, the window waterfall.
If you want to explore the spectacular Thórsmörk valley with all the comforts, this is the perfect private tour for you.
